Mid-Year Review: Depth Year
Mid-Year Review Revelation: The Depth Year
I’ve got a serious case of shiny object syndrome. No big surprise there. However, fear not because I have a plan to get back on track. I’m sharing it here because you might like to try this, too. Let’s dive into the first item on my Mid-Year Review agenda: The Depth Year.
Time to refocus on my Depth Year
In case you missed my other social posts on this topic, a "Depth Year" is about committing to a focused and intentional approach to personal growth and learning. It means putting a temporary hold on acquiring new things or chasing new interests. Instead, we’re encouraged to dive deeper into our existing passions, skills, and knowledge. It’s like a treasure hunt within ourselves, where we fully appreciate what we’ve already got without constantly being distracted by the allure of shiny new things. And, oh, how I struggle with that.
So, let's talk about how we can plan our Depth Year adventure:
Reading:
Instead of piling up more books, let’s take the time to revisit those unread or unfinished gems gathering dust on our shelves. By rereading and reflecting on them, we can unlock a new level of understanding and connection with the material. I have to admit, I started strong with this one during the first quarter of the year, but lately, it’s been a bit of a slippery slope. In fact, I’ve got a package of books on the way as I write this.
Learning:
Now, I know it’s tempting to jump into new courses or explore new subjects but remember, our Depth Year is all about going deeper, not broader. So, let’s focus on diving further into the areas that already light our fire. Whether delving into a specific field of study, honing our existing skills, or uncovering advanced aspects of a beloved hobby, let’s resist the urge to constantly seek out something new. I must confess I nailed this one during the first quarter, but then I caved in and made a few purchases for further learning. Now I’m left feeling overwhelmed, wondering where I am, and trying to figure out what I'm doing.
Consuming:
Ah, the art of mindful consumption. During our Depth Year, we want to be more conscious about what we bring into our lives. Let’s reduce unnecessary purchases and resist the temptation to accumulate more stuff. It’s a chance to fully appreciate and make the most of the resources, books, tools, and materials we already have. Now, listen closely because this one’s a success story for me so far. I've miraculously managed to stay on track with purchases. Realization: I am enough, and I have enough.
Experiences:
While cutting back on material possessions, let’s redirect our focus toward people and experiences. After all, the connections we make and the moments we share with loved ones enrich our lives. So, it’s time for me to level up in the friends and family department. I need to refocus and prioritize those meaningful relationships because, in the end, it’s the people who matter the most.
