Healing Hypnotic Body Scan
Free Hypnosis Audio Download
A couple of weeks ago, I created a Body Scan self-hypnosis audio track for one of my clients during a session. If you’re unfamiliar with a Body Scan, it is a common meditative practice that involves “scanning” the body from head to toe (or toe to head) while noticing sensations and emotions. It can also be part of a progressive relaxation technique. It’s something that I commonly conduct during a hypnosis session to gain deep wisdom about all sorts of life-related issues. I decided to try the audio myself and was entirely surprised by the mind-body breakthroughs that I had while listening, so I thought I would make it available to you.
Listen to the Wisdom of the Body
I hope this isn’t TMI, but the first time I listened, the area of my root chakra revealed some curious wisdom. On repeated listening, a connection between my recent teeth grinding and my root chakra made itself clear, and I started to get immediate relief in my jaw. I’m still exploring these connections with the audio and curious about what I’ll learn next. Somatic practices are an essential part of my life and an important part of my hypnosis practice. The more embodied I become, the greater my experience of life. I want that for you, too!
When you listen to the audio, one of the first things I will ask you to do is focus all of your attention on your left pinky toe. The aim is to refine your ability to feel sensations in the most remote parts of your body – ones that we are not usually conscious of. The more we refine our focus and attention, the more we become aware of all aspects of our human embodiment. Heightened awareness can open our experience to greater pleasure, more sensation, and our body's messages.
The guided portion of the audio goes on for 20 minutes, but the Theta-inducing background music continues for the full 30 minutes. Listening before bed makes you feel so relaxed you can drift off to sleep.
What’s in it for You?
Self-hypnosis audios offer many benefits, and some of them include:
Relaxation and Stress Reduction: Systematically focusing on different parts of the body helps release tension, which can significantly reduce stress and anxiety levels as the mind shifts focus away from stress-inducing thoughts.
Increased Body Awareness: You become more aware of bodily sensations, which can lead to a better understanding of your physical state. This heightened awareness helps you recognize stress and tension, allowing quick intervention.
Improved Sleep: You sleep better by calming the mind and relaxing the body. It’s particularly helpful if you struggle with insomnia or restless sleep, as it helps quiet the mind and prepare the body for rest.
Emotional Regulation: As you become more attuned to your bodily sensations, you also develop a greater awareness of your emotional states, leading to better emotional regulation and a deeper understanding of the mind-body connection.
Mindfulness and Presence: This practice encourages mindfulness – the state of being fully present in the moment, which can improve focus, concentration, and cognitive clarity, as well as enhance overall well-being.
Spiritual and Personal Growth: If you are on a spiritual path, the body scan can be a tool for deeper self-exploration and personal growth. It can create a space for introspection and a deeper connection with your inner life and wise self.
It’s that time of year when life can become quite hectic and stressful, and such practices can be a balm to your nervous system. If you try it out, please let me know your thoughts and if you have any juicy realizations.
